The party of Abraham Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt and Dwight Eisenhower is now the party of corrupt pocket liners like Shitler, Moscow Mitch, Cancun Cruz and Psalms Rubio. If that's not bad enough it's also become the party of extremist performance artists like Matt Gaetz, Marjorie Taylor Greene, Lauren Boebert and Josh Hawley. Quite the gallery of fools.
Extremists in the Republican Party have become mainstream—especially in state houses across America. So much so, that Senator Mitt Romney, who some see as a moderate Republican, was recently booed at the Utah Republican State Convention.
If there was any good news for Mitt, it was that a resolution to censure him because he "consistently publicly criticized President Trump" failed, albeit it narrowly in a close vote of 711 for to 798 against.
This is a party that once had its share of moderates, including Mitt's dad George Romney, who was once Governor of Michigan. But today’s GOP has been hijacked by far right wing extremists and know-nothing performers who even make George Romney's arch nemesis Barry Goldwater seem tame by comparison.
Here's what George Romney said when he denounced right wing extremists back in the sixties: “When extremists infiltrate our party and attach themselves like parasites to our leaders and even become leaders themselves, our party is discredited in the eyes of those whose support we must win. It is more essential that we repudiate and eliminate these few from our ranks than to see our cause fail.”
Wow! Sounds like George Romney was talking about the QAnon extremists calling the shots for the GOP these days that his son Mitt sometimes panders to. I wonder if Mitt is even aware his own dad said that. Worse yet, I wonder if he'd care even if he is.
